The Persia sailed from Gravesend for Wellington and the Southern Settlements on the 22nd February. The Samarang was laid on for Lyttelton and other ports, on the 24th March. The Stately was advertised for Wellington, to sail on the 10th April, and the Sir Edward Paget, for Auckland, in April. Neither of the two latter vessels had arrived at home. The Australian Eoyal Mail Steam Navigation Company was about to commence operations, in conformity with the terms of their contract with Government, for the conveyance of the mails to Sydney. They had four new iron screw steamers far advanced; the first of which, the Australian, was to leave London on the 28th April, with the mails for Sydney, calling- at St. Vincent, (Cape de Verds,) Cape of Good Hope, King George's Sound,! Adelaide, and Port Philip.— New Zealander.
