The Rev H C Blathwayt, of Otane (Hawke's Bay), is spending a short holiday in this district Dr T McKibbin, Medical officer of Health for Ofcago and Southland, paid a visit to Arrowtown on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs C A Thompson and family took their departure from Queenstown for Dunedin yesterday, We understand that Mr W Wilson, whe ha 3 occupied the position of Fields Inspeotor in the Wakatipu district for the past five years, will shortly be transferred to Wellington. Dr Thomas Harrison, late of Dunedin, has been appointed resident medical officer to the Lauder Medioal Club. There were eight applicants for the position. Mr White, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Queenstown, received advice from Christohuroh yesterday of tbe death of his father. Mr White motored through to Cromwell last evening en route to Christchuach Mr P McDonald, an old resident of the Upper Clutha distriot, who was at one time a partner in the firm of Anderson and McDonald, flourmillers, Luggate, died at Dunedin last week. •Inspector MoNamara, offioerincharge of the Southland Polioe District, is at present making an inspection of the licensed premises in the Lakes Dis trict. He visited Arrowtown on Tuesday. In the contest for the representation of Clutha Biding in the Vincent County Council Mr George Moodie of Lowburn, defeated Mr J B Webb (sitting member) by 3 votes. In Manu herikia Biding Mr McKnight (sitting member) defeated Mr Armstrong by 61 to 68.

At the monthly meeting of the Southland Hospital Board a letter was received from the Wanaka Medical Association advising the appointment of Dr Hessie Morton as its medical officer from March 1, The Board decided to refer the appointment to the Health Department for confirmation. Before the ordinary business of the Otago Land Boa/d was taken at its meeting last week, Mr R. T. Sadd, ohairman of the board, tendered his congratulations to Mr George Living stone on bis re-election to a seat on the board. Mr SadH said the result of the election showed that the work done by Mr Livingstoue during his long service on the board wa3 appreciated by the Grown tenants. On Saturday last Mr G H Romans, secretary of the Arrow Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Committee, telegraphed to Sir William Fraser asking him if ha could conveniently visit Arrowfcown to unveil the memorial. On Monday Mr Romans reoeived the following reply—--111 appreciate highly the compliment paid to me by asking me fo unveil the soldiers')memorial at Arrowtown. Much as I should like to be with you all on that occasion,, 1 regret exceedingly to have to say that I cannot leave Wei liugton at present—William Fraser." Mr 0 A Thompson, manager of the local branoh of the Bank of New Zealaud, who ha 3 been transferred to Dunedin, was entertained by a number of friends at a valedictory gathering at B'chardt's Hotel, Queenetown, on Saturday evening. The Mayor (Mr A Simson), presided, and on behalf of a i number of friends handed the guest of the evening a cheque for a substantial amount, which he asked him to present to Mrs Thompson with a view to her purchasing somefchieg of a tangible nature for their new home in Dunedin. The Mayor, Mr P Reid, and other speakers, referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Thompson's good qualities as a bank manager and a private oitizen. A cordial welcome was extended to Mr White, Mr Thompson's successor, who was present at the gathering. There was a large gathering at the Gibbston school-room on Friday evening, the ocoasion being a farewell social tendered to Miss Robbie, who is relinquishing charge of the local sohool. At a suitable interval in the proceedings Mr F 0 Perriam (chairman of the School Committee), after referring in complimentary terms to Miss Robbie's capability as a teacher, presented her on behalf of the residents with a jewel case, aud wished her every future success aud prosperity. Miss Robbie suitably responded, aud all present joined in singing " For She Is A Jolly Good Fellow." Dancing was spiritedly kept up during the evening, the music being supplied by the ladies present, while Mr G Enrighfc acted as M.C. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. During the evening Miss Enrightsang acceptably, and community singing was also indulged in.— Gibbston correspondent. During an interval at the Clinton Cricket Club's concert Mr J P White, who has been manager of the local branoh of the Bank of New Zealand

for the past two and a half yeara, and wh > was reoently appointed manager of Queenstown Branob, was presented wit a a gold albert and pendant as a token of esteem and goodwill from the residents of Olinton and district. The chairman (Mr J R Garden), in making the presentation, referred to the interest Mr White had taken and the servioei he had given in everything for the good of the district. Messrs H E Steel and F Wnite also spoke in appreciation of Mr White's estimable qualities in the social, sporting, and business affairs of the district.
