Mr T. J. Cotter, Arrrowtown, Las received word that his son, Trooper P. F. Cotter, is returning by the troopship Ulimaroa, arriving at Auckland about August, 6. Trooper Cotter left with the 36tb Mounted, and has been all the time in Egypt and Palestine. Mr A. B. Card of Fielding has been transferred to the Queenstown branch of the Post and Telegraph Dept., as chief clerk and telegraphist. Mr Card is a returned soldier, —Mail. Private Thoa. R. Luckie, who has been undergoing treatment m DuneT din for war injuries for many weeks past, returned to Queenstown last Very Rev Dean van Dyk, who is engaged in missionary work amongst the Maoris in the Auckland diocese; paid a visit to the district last week. On Sunday morning he preached at bt. Patrick’s Church, Arrowtown, in the interests of the 'mission work amongst the Maoris Sister Ross, who has .been matrcn-in-charge at the Lake County Hospital for close on four years, has been granted indefinite leave of absence (says the Mail). She took her departure from the district some days.ago. The eincere wish is being expressed throughout the district that in course of time she will return to take up again those duties which she has earned out so faithfully in the past at >e. Lake County Hospital. The death occurred in Invercargill last week of a very old resident of that town, Mr Jobn’Charles Wild. In the early sixties he engaged in waggoning to the Lakes. Colonel J. Cowie Nioholla, who has held the position of officer commanding the Otago Military district during the war period, relinquished his duties last week. Colonel Macdonald, his successor, who is well known in Otago as officer commanding the Otago Infantry Battalion of the Main Body, has arrived and .assumed his new duties. Another of our district young men who returned from the war a short time ago has joined the ranks of the benedicts (says the Wakatip Mail). This is Timothy John Ryan (Both Reinforcements, N.Z E.F.), only son of Mr and Mrs J Ryan, Arthurs Point, who was married at Dunedin on the 26th ult to Miss Barbara Robertson, oldest daughter of Mr W. Robertson, . late of Gore and now resident in Dune- • ain. The nuptial event tootk place in ; St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the Very Rev. Father Coffey being the celebrant. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a smart navy coat and skirt and black fox furs. Her hat was of emerald green velvet, the wide brim being lined in with grey Bilk Its only trimming was a chic bead ornament. Her bridesmaid was Miss Tot Ryan, sister of the bridegroom, who wore a dainty frock of navy voile made in becoming pinafore style, ber hat being of navy silk trimmed with pink roses. Archie McOaugban, Kingston, filled the role of best man. At the conclusion of the ceremony the bridal party repaired to the home of the bride’s father, where the wedding breakfast was partaken of. The happy couple left Dunedin by the afternoon train en route to Invercargill. Both the young people are thoroughly popular, so they will have the hearty wishes of their many friends for every happiness and prosperity in their married life. Congratulations.
