QUEENSTOWN NEWS.

(Fuo:,i a cokhkspoxdent). Tho Bowling Club's social last week was a very successful one. Large numbers attended from various parts. The efforts of the energetic secretary, Mr King, backed up by an enthusiastic committee, assisted materially in making the social most enjoyable. The decorations wore lovely, and this together with the pretty dresses of the ladies, made the scene bright and cheerful. Songs were contributed by Mrs Mussen and Mr J. C. M'Bride, and a quartette by Mrs Mussen, Miss Henderson, and Messrs Warren and M'Bride ; also a hornpipe by Mr Hillman. Mr Pope made a capable M.0., and good music was provided by Messrs Hillman, Brown and Aldridge. Another old resident in the person of Mrs Jack has passed to the Great Beyond. Deceased lady, who was of a kindly disposition and much respected, reached the ripe age of 77 years. The funeral took place on Saturday, the burial service being conducted by the Eev. Mr Packe. Much sympathy prevails for the bereaved family. The Mail enquired of the Minister of Railways if a new steamer had been ordered for the Lake service, and the reply was received : "No new steamer has been ordered ; it is not contemplated to do so this year." Well, we will just have to wait until next year, and even longer, and keep on hoping. The Wakatipu Hospital netted something like £2O over the recent social, and the Board has decided to put linoleum on the floors. A vocal and instrumental entertainment will be given by the Queenstown Choral Society on the 28th inst. The funds will be devoted to the Wakatipu Hospital. Tho Choral Society have been in steady practice for some time under the able conductor, Mr Largerloff.
