MULTUM IN PARVO.
(to the editor.) Sir, —The question is often mooted by “The man in the street” when are we to get the town clock, or what is the committee appointed doing. In answer to these questions, being one of the Committee, I may state our present position. After a lengthened correspondence on the subject, it was ulti mately decided on a suitable clock that would in every respect suit our varied and severe climate (with one or four faces) for the sum of £4O. This amount, together with an additional £lO for carriage and fittings etc., brings the sum required up to £SO. Against this sum the committee have on hand the sum of £lB. The latter amount would purchase & “ clock ” but not one that would in any respect suit the purpose. This is the present position of your committee, whose best intentions for the scheme are frustrated for want of means. Seeing how matters now stand, I would kindly invite and thank the general public for any suggestions or a solution out of the present diffi culty.—l am, etc., L. H. Preston. Chairman Clock Committee.
