Political Points.
Mr Cadman is doing much to popularise and add to the usefulness of the railways. A farmer will now get a truck and can load it with a miscellaneous lot of goods, such as grass seed, manure, lime, etc, Under the revised tariff he will pay only £1 14s Bd, for what formeily would have cost him something like £2 10s, Again, two classes of season tickets will be issued in future—viz., non-transferable (£SO) and transferable once a month (£55), with an additional charge of 10s for each transfer. Bicycles have hitherto been free, but they are becoming a serious trouble, and so a small charge is to be made for their carriage—3d for l2miles, 6d for 25, Is for 50, and 3d extra for every additional 50 miles or fraction thereof. Itisstated, says theMarton Mercury, that Mr R. C. Bruce has given a reluctant consent to contest the Rangitikei seat against Mr John Stevens, M.H.R., at the next general election.
A rumor is current that Scobie M’Kenzio is to be asked to contest Awarua.
