ARROW DISTRICT HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
Ordinary Meeting, March 10th. Present: Messrs Barlow (Chairman), Douglas, Scoles, Jones, Enright, Owens, Jenkins, Healey, and M'Donnell. The inward correspondence included a letter from Dr Dickinson, resigning his position as Surgeon to the Institution, on account of his shortly leaving the district for Geelong, where a large practice awaited him, and greater educational facilities existed for his children. Accounts as follows were passed for payment:—S. R. Angelo, £4 14s 8d ; E. Gruber, £2 6s 4d; Auditors, £2 2s; W. S. N. Co,, 6s; Ferguson and Mitchell, £3; W. Scoles, £1 ; W. Wright, £1; P- Smith, 10s; W. Jenkins, £6 6s 7d; J. Colville, £3 9a ll|d; T. M'Donnell, £3 16s 6d; Secretary, £5 5s 3d; salaries for month, £29 2s Bd. Total—£63 9s lljd. The Surgeon handed in £2O 15s, received from paying-patients during the month. The Treasurer stated that this sum, together with the amount at present in Bank, made the Committee’s credit balance £lßl 11s sd. The Secretary and Mr Douglas were authorised to employ a man for a week, to do necessary clearing-up and levelling around the building. Surgeon's Report. Since my last report (Feb. 6th) ten patients have been admitted to the Hospital, and three out-patients attended to. One patient (Mrs Houlihan) died in tho Hospital on March 12th. One patient (A. Resta) left without notice, hut paid up in full.
One patient (W. Ballard) left without notice and without paying for ticket or board. Five patients have been discharged well. There are four patients remaining in the Hospital, all of whom aro progressing favorably.—W. M. Dickinson, Surgeon. The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Acclimatisation Society for 200 forest trees to plant in the Hospital grounds. The Secretary was instructed to write the patient who had left without paying, referred to in the Surgeon’s report. The Surgeon’s resignation was accepted, and a resolution passed asking him to remain until a successor was appointed, the Committee pledging itself to use all expedition in the matter. A long discussion ensued as to what steps should be taken for securing the services of a new Surgeon, in the course of which the Chairman stated Dr Dickinson had informed him that, sifice coming to the Arrow, his practice outside of the Hospital had been at the rate of £750 a year. In Committee it was resolved to communicate with one of the former applicants for the position. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr J. Hislop, Dunedin, for a handsome clock presented by him to the Hospital, and to Mr T. Logan for his instrumentality in obtaining the same.
