The Bench stated that all applications for night licenses would he held over till the 15th,, as the Provincial Council was sitting to pass a bill affecting night licenses. NEW HOUSE. D. Enright made application for a license far a hew house, at Gibbstown. A petition was handed in, asking for the license to be refused. The Clerk said the objection had been sent in too late. „ The applicant stated that he had signatures of 28 residents in favor of his having a license, and that there was only 35 living there. Had he not done so he would not have gone to the expense of building an hotel/ The people had told him that they could not get anything fit to eat or drink in the other house. MrLeece appeared as an objector, and stated that the people who signed the petition were not . against Mr Enright having a license because he was not fit to hold one, but because another house was not required. He would not have been there, only that he heard it was necessary, as he was one of the objectors. Another reason he had for objeeting was, he was a Good Templar, and the object of the order was to put down drink. He objected to the license on principle, and if be had power, he would object to Mr Schieb's, as the residents did not want a public house in that district. Mr Schieb said as the population was decreasing, there Was no room for another house. He could scarcely make a living, and if another license were granted, it would be worse. He had made alterations in his property, and it was valuable. It would be impossible for him to get a living if he had not other resources. After a discussion the Bench granted the license by a majority. Mb Gibson's application Was then dealt with, and after due consideration, The Bench granted a renewal, stating that if any charge was again brought against him, he would be liable to lose his license. Tbe Court was then adjourned *aaiil 15th instant.
