CARDRONA.

(From our special Correspondent) DEATH OF A CHINAMAN. INQUEST. On Monday last an inquest was held here, before H. A. Stratford, Esq.. Coroner, on the body of Ah Yen, who hanged himself in his hut on Cardrona Creak, on Monday last. Pen Lung deposed that he last aaw Ah Yon alive on Sunday last. He {deceased) was then crazy. He 1-ft China 2 or 3 year* ago. He worked every day. He read a letter from his father a few days ago, and began to cry when he received it. Last Sunday deceased promised to go out and get firewood, while he {Pen Lung) went for provisions to Cardrona township. While at the township Ah Luke came to him, about 12 o’clock in the day, and told him Ah Yen had hung himself. He went back with Ah Luke, and found Ah Yen quite dead on his stretcher. Ah Luke told him he had cut deceased down. He (Pen Lung) could see marks across the neck. Deceased had no money, never got drunk, nor did he smoke opium. Deceased was 32 years old. Ah Luke deposed that on Sundry he to Ah Yen’s hut, and found him hanging inside to the ridge pole. He could not untie the knot, so cut it with his kn ; fe. He was quite dead and cold. He put bis body on the stretcher in the hut, and went to Cardrona township to tell Pen Lung. He did not know if deceased had money or not. The claim was not worth inuch. There were two little (tools turned over in the hut, as if deceased had used them to hang himself. Deceased’s feet were about 5 inches from the ground,.as he hung. Ihe rope he had used was made out of a rice bag. : Constable Corny ne deposed to his having been informed of the deatn of the Chinaman, and of his going to the tent and examin ing the body. He found ; no marks of violence r pn the body, except on the neck. He found one piece of rope on the ridge pole, and one piece round deceased’s throat. They were exactly alike. Ho searched deceased’s pocketa, They were empty,. , 4 . ...
