Dttnedin, November 21. A new Provincial Executive has been formed. The members are Messrs Tolmie (Provincial Secretary), Turnbull (Treasurer), M'Derroot and M'Arthur (Southland member). Provincial Councillors have forwarded a circular to the Superintendent, asking him to call a meeting of the Council, on the grounds that the new Land Law requires to be brought into operation, and appointments made under it; that the Council are unacquainted with the views of the new Govern-nent on the Land Question, and provision has to be made as to the purchase of land on deferred payments ; that the Highway Boards Empowering Act also has to be brought into operation, and the amount of subsidy to Road Boards determiued; and bi cause it was understood the session would be called immediately after the Assembly was prorogued. The ship Charlotte Gladstone sailed for Otago on the 4th instant, with 350 immigrants. An explosion occurred at the Cum-berland-street aoap factory, wherebv a man and a boy were hurt. Governor Bowen has received official intimation of his appointment to Victoria, but does not leave till March next. . He will arrive atDunedin on the 20th December, and will formally open the Port Chalmers Railway.

Auckland, 20ih. A destructive fire broke out this morning, destroying property to the value of £50,000. The Post and Telegraph Offices, Custom House, and Provincial Government buildings y Were destroyed, aod only a few docuin nts and mails saved. The Bank or' Australasia had a narrow escape. Fifteen stores are partly burnt, one man nearly killed, and two firemen injured. The fire originated in a flax store, and might have been confined to narrow limit* by good management; but much confusion prevailed owing to squabbling among rival fire brigades. The insurances are—New Zealand C>>, £1000; South British, £1,50J . Scottish, £2,000; Victoria, £2,500; Ltoyal, £3000; aud Norwich Union, £SOOO. The Government buildings were uninsured, and cost £25,000.
