MINISTER’S VISIT
ARROWTOWN SEEKS INCLUSION STATE HIGHWAY REPRESENTATIONS An endeavour to liavo Arrowtown included in the itinerary of tlie Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. Semple, so that a deputation could place before him the necessity of having the road through Arrowtown declared a State highway is to be made by the Arrowtown Borough Council. This was decided at the monthly meeting of the council following consideration of recommendations from the Progressive League. It was also decided to institute a petition and to request support from the Lake County Council, Queenstoyvn Borough Council, Federated Farmers and Queenstown Progressive League. It was decided to establish a Museum for items of interest relating to the early history of the district. Any residents having such itejns are requested to leave them with the Mayor, who has been appointed receiver. The Public Works Department notified the council that the Main Highways subsidy on the QueenstownWanaka Main Highway was £4 for £l. Mr Davies, Queenstown, wrote stating that the gravelling of the main highway would be begun soon. At the request of the secretary of the Bowling Club it was decided that consideration of the application for a long term lease be held over to the next meeting. Breach of Regulations The Acclimatisation Officer, Mr Y. A. Vercoe, Queenstown, wrote stating that the depositing of night soil in the Arrow River was a breach of the Fresh Water Fisheries Regulations. The letter was received. The report of the Chairman of Works, was adopted. The Mayor’s action regarding the selling of a lamp post was endorsed. It was decided to write to the Miniature Rifle Club drarving their attention to the damage to the hall caused by stray shots. It was decided to draw the Ranger’s attention to the wandering stock nuisance. The report of the Local Government Catchment Board Commission was received. It was decided to grant permission to test oil portions of the main street in an endeavour to lay the dust. On the suggestion of the Physical Welfare Officer, Mr Johnston, it was decided to endeavour to purchase additional areas for camping grounds. In regard to the housing position, the town clerk was requested to report to the next meeting the particulars of sections which were Borough property. Accounts amounting to £l9 19s lOd were passed for payment.
