Farmers Discuss Rabbit Menace
Five members of Federated Farmers’ Wakatipu branch, Messrs D. E. Rowe, \V. P. Mac Donald, A. E. Paterson, J. L. Small and A. McCormick, recently met farmers at the head of Lake Wakatipu to discuss the rabbit menace in that area and to review evidence to be submitted by high country landholders, through the federation’s provincial executive to the High Country Commission. Mr D. G. Scott, who presided over an attendance of 25 members and welcomed the visitors, said that mutual progress must be the result of such meetings where the common interests of the sheep farmer were discussed. Mr Eowe gave a resume of the evidence to be submitted and invited any further suggestions which would strengthen the ease. He was supported by Mr W. P. McDonald, chairman of the High Country section of the Federated Farmers’ provincial organisation. It was resolved that the Upper Wakatipu branch accord full support to the evidence submitted and it was farther agreed to attend meetings in Queenstown whenever possible.
