Several townspeople have suggested the desirability of obtaining dredging machinery to work the inner shores of the lake. The deposits in all streams emptying into tire lake, from the Onemile Creek to the Bucklerburn, are all more or less auriferous. October, 1866 In the Queenstown district about 200 miners are at work, and the average rate of wages is about £3 10s per week. The number of stores is 25, hotels 30, and packers 10. In the Upper Shotover district about 450 miners are at work. The rate of wages is £4, and there are in the district 16 stores, 15 hotels and 4 packers. At Arrow there ar 400 miners and the rate of wages is £4, the number of stores 25, hotels 20, and packers 7. The number of miners in the whole district is about 1050. The mining population increased by about 12 per cent, during the last six months. The value of machinery and mining plant in the district is put down at £BO,OOO.
