DREAM COME TRUE New Wonder Fabric for the Home
Ink on the sofa, small grubby fingermarks on the curtains —why worry V—a damp cloth and off it comes. Am I day-dreaming? —no, I’m not. This will be the case soon I hope, and the reason is plastic fabrics and glass and nylon fabric fibres.
These new fibres are beginning to appear in our shop windows. Plastic for aprons, shower curtains and waterproof capes mainly, admittedly, but their uses do not stop there. Each of these plastic films and new fibres and special finishes is qualified to do certain jobs, and do them well, but no fabric is jack-of-all-trades.. “ Fiberglas,” for instance, which we have not seen in New Zealand yet, makes a fire-proof, easily-cleaned drapery, but it can’t take abrasion. Therefore it would be foolish to use it in a slip-cover. Choosing the right fabric for the right job doesn’t mean that you will be limited in your future fabric selections. Far from it.
