The Rev. Mr. Kayll will conduct the services at St. Matthew's Church, Helensville, on Sunday next, 16th inst. A presentation of a purse of sovereigns was made to Mr Joe Marshall, on Tuesday last, upon his departure for the front. The amount subscribed showed the place he had in the hearts of the inhabitants of Helensville, and the appreciation of the prompt way he offered his services to the Empire. Stewart Bros., Ltd., have not only changed their standing advt. on the front page, but now announce a bargain sale, commencing on Saturday, and ending on Monday evening, so that there is not much time to get in at slaughter prices. The ladies especially should be particularly interested. A very old friend of the editor's (Mr Geo. F. Dickeson), passed over to the i Great Majority, in an Auckland private hospital, on Wednesday, at the age of 60 years. His remains were intrerred |at Kaikohe, Bay of Islands to-day. "George" was a real WHITE-MAN to the core, and many will miss his jovial face and friendly help. Oh, George, dear, she whispered, when he slipped the engagement ring on her tapered finger, how sweet of you to remember just the sort of stone I preferred 1 None of the others were ever so thoughtful. George was staggered, but for a moment. Then he came back with: Not at all, dear. You overrate me. This is the one I always used. She was inconsistent enough to cry about it.
