Messrs Alfred Buckiand and Sons report :—

At our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday, October 22, we penned fat cattle to the number of 327. There was an improved demand} and generally values were firmer. Choice ox sold to Ll lis, prime Ll 8s to Ll 9s 6d, cows and heifers Ll 4s to Ll 9s* steers from L 8 to Lls, cows and heifers L 4 10s to Ll3 2s 6d. Sixteen extra heavy and choice Polled Angus cows and heifers from Kereone Estate, Morrinsville, made the record average of Ll2 4s 2d. each. Pat and young calves continue to came forward in large numbers, and sell readily, choice medium suckers being very firm. No runners penned. Heavy suckers L 3 to L 4 3s, choice medium suckers L' 23s to L 2 18, lighter Ll 10s to L 2 2s, small 19s to Ll Bs, freshdropped 9s to 18s, weedy 3s to 73 (125 sold). The sheep pens were moderately filled with a nice class of mutton. Competition was steady throughout, and values, firmed to the extent of about Is 6d per head. Extra heavy prime woolly wethers, Ll 10s to Ll 12s ; prime heavy woolly made Ll Gs 9d to Li 9s, medium to heavy Ll 4s 6d to L v 6s, best heavy prime shorn wethers Ll 2s to Ll 3s 6d, lighter 18s to Ll Is, light and unfinished 16s to 17s 9d, extra heavy prime woolly ewes Ll 5s to Ll Bs, good Ll 3s to Ll 4s 9d, others 17s to Ll 1, best shorn i ewes 1-7s to Ll, others los to 16s 6d, prime heavy woolly hoggets Ll 3s to Ll 6s 6d, others 16s to 18s (1318 sold;. Spring lambs penned in increased numbers, and although last week's extreme values were not realised prices were good. Best heavy 18s 9d to Ll, good 16s 6d to 18s 6d, others 14s to 16s, light 9s 9d to 13s 6d (217 sold). There was a full yarding of pigs, including all classes. The demand was steady, with, prices on"a par with last report. Heavy baconers made L 3 12s to L 4 2s, lighter L 2 16s to L 3 2s. large porkers L 2 10s to L 2 iss, lighter LI 14s to L 2 6s, small Ll 4s to Ll 10s, slips Ll to Ll 3s 6d, weaners 17s, suckers 15s (206 penned).

Messrs, Alfred Buckiand and Sons report :— At this week's sale we submitted an average catalogue of hides, skins, tallow and etc. Hides : Competition is kepn, both from exporters and local manufactures Ox, stout BAd to 8-g-d, light 7-^d to Bd, wet and scored 6d to 7d ; cow, best lines to B!fd, seconds 6Ad to 7£d ; kip 7d to 8d ; yearlings, 7Ad to 7-g- ; callskins, good lines to 9M, large 8d to 8--Jd. cut aud meaty Gid to 7_-d ; cut and damaged hides 6d to 7d per lb. Sheepskins : Extra" large to 12s, good lines 7s to 8s Bd, medium os Gd to 6s 9d, small 4s. to 5s ; country, dry and large to 7s Gd, others 3s to ss. PeJts : Competition keen. Butchers' best Is 9d, seconds 9d to Is 3d. Lambskins : Good Is 3d, others 6d to Is, Tallow : Best mixed 28s Gd, seconds 23s Gd to 255, inferior IBs to 225. Bones : Good dry, £5. Hair : Tail, Is 6d to Is 9d ; mane, 8d to lod. Cowtails : Is 8d per dozen.
