Poynton, W, McCathie, J, Greenwood, E. Day and A. M^Lang, The first business was a Conference with quarry owners in regard to metal supplies, which was taken in committee. As the outcome the Council waited upon tho Railway Trafliic Manager about a supply of trucks. The notice of motion given by the Chairman to rescind resolution naming a road at Henderson, Dingle road, was adopted, and the name of John McLeod road was substituted.
W. J. El'ett asked for compensation for land taken for road deviation at Ratauhiri. In reply to Crs Mc Leod and Dye, the Engineer said the survey was completed and the land was pegged out, but the compensation had not been paid.—On the motion of Crs Dye and McLeod, it was decided that Mr Ellett be settled with.
G. Clifton and others, Kumeu, asked the Council to accept the road offered through Radonich's land.—The Engineer recommended that the proposed road be taken as it was level all through and none of the other roads were level.—On Or Kerr-Taylor's motion it was resolved that steps be taken to take the road.—Matter left m the hands of the Engineer and Cr Kerr-Taylor. On the motion of Cr Taylor, seconded by the Chairman, it was decided to call the attention of the Minister for Railways and the district members of Parliament to the fact that there Wf.s a large supply of scoria at the Mt, Albert quarries, but the Council was unable to spend its loan monies and obtain same because the Railways Department would not supply trucks, and asking their assistance in having the matter remedied. The discussion on the metal supply question showed the position to be most acute. At the present rate of expenditure the various loans raised, as pointed out by the Chairman, could not be spent for several years, yet tho metal was urgently required. The Engineer mentioned that Whangarei Council had three large metal waggons for sale, which he considered a bargain at the price offered.—On Cr Kerr-Taylor's motion, the Engineer, was authorised to pay a visit of inspection. Tenders were accepted as follow : Road formation, Whangaparoa, H. Vipond £67 10s ; deviation at Kumeu, H. Scalley, £156 3s; road formation at Riverhead, H. Scalley £107 15s ; culvert, Wade-Dairy Flat road, W McNair £b5. The State Advances Department forwarded copy of resolution adopted by. Henderson ratepayers, protesting against the method of expending loan monies in the district.—Cr Greenwood said the motion was supported by only IS at a meeting where 50 to 6.) rate, payers were present,— The Chairman said he had been oyer tho Henderson roads and the defects complained of were inseparable from laying down new roads. The Council could not afford to iay down big boulder foundations ; and the trouble was that many of the people around there were not used to country roads and expected something equal, to Queen street when they got out in the country.—On Cr Mc Leod's motion it was decided to inform the 1 Apartment that the Council had spent the money to the best advantage under the circumstances.—Cr Povnton remarked that the Council had a lot of trouble- in getting grants and loans and the ratepayers who interfered as the Henderson people had done were doing themselyes more harm than good. V.D.Johns wrote for particulars in regard to leasing Wado domain — it was decided to invite tenders for samo. Mr. Jas. McLeod tendered an in^ vitation to councillors to be present arx the opening of the Helensville Domain greens on Labor Day, for which hewas accorded a vote of thanks.
