Oparau.
(FROM OUR OWN COREE3POSDEKT.) The weather has been hot and the land is dry. A wolcjme shower came on Saturday night. There were several fires last week, which means mere grass and stock next year. Messrs’ Schrieber Bros, have 15 acres in turnip-, Mr Yells has a ridge cleared, ploughed and sown, and Mr Anderson will soon be putting in turnips again. Turnips seem to do wail on plo igbed land here, while potatoes do even better. Tha grass sown by Messrs Schriebe and Mackenzie has done very well ana " proved fern land to be equal to bush land. Moki and Ta Hui’s sections—l7oo acres—are still unoccupied. We want a purchasing clausa, then one could lease with the certainty of getting the value of improvement back. It would be a big help to the district if the an* occupied native land was disposed of to bona fide settlers. It is a very rare ihing to see a rag» wort plant on seidel land at Oparau« All are killing it, and also Canadian thistle and other noxious weeds. They ire certainly w.aa.in this matter.
