Kawhia School Picnic.
The above event was held at Te Maika yesterday (Thursday) but tbe attend \nce waa very p ior, only about 40 attending. The weather in tbe miming wag very threatening, which d<nibtle.4s accounted for the small gathering, though, fortunately, the rain held off. Tbe trip was made to the ground in Mr Newton’s commodlous launch Muroro. Arrived at To M-ika the children soon commenced to-be entertained,'refreshments (pecvided by the ladies and subscription) being plentiful and of a high clag j . After lunch, « eas, games, etc , were indulged in, and a right royal time was spent by all, the Kawhia Wharf being again reached shortly after 6 p.m. , The committee desire to thank M-g R >bison for her valuable assist ancs, and to Mrs Healey for her gift of special prizes. . A nice programme of sports way gone through, under tbe capable management of Rev Mitchell, Messrs Wright (j-'idges), Howes and Turrell (handicappers), the results being us follows : Buys Race—W. Barkley 1, L. Pear son 2 Three-legged Race—L. Pearson and W. Barkley 1 Open Handicap—A. Perham 1, 11. Symons 2, W. Barkley 3 Boys under 12—H. Howes 1 Girls Race—K. Whitcombs 1, M. Pearson 2, Long Jump—W, Barkley and L. Pearson dead heat Small Boys Raes—Mitchell and Robinson dead heat. The b »ys ran a dead heat the first time, and again so in the run off. Consolation Race—A, Jonathan 1, G. Falwasser 2 Girh under 9—D. Symons 1, T. Morgan 2
