NOXIOUS WEEDS
SUBSIDY AVAILABLE. UNDER 4B SCHEME. The employment division of the Labour Department is prepared to subsidise work under the No. 4B scheme for the eradication of gorse and other noxious weeds now growing on farm lands. This advice has. just been received by Mr. R. McGillivray, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture at Christchurch, from Mr. R. B. Tennant, director of the fields division. “This scheme provides for the granting of subsidies of up to 75 per cent, of the actual labour cost of the jobs carried out,” said Mr. McGillivray. “The jobs are to be undertaken on the co-operative contract basis. The scheme does not provide for subsidies on maintenance work, and development work only will be considered under the scheme.
“Any farmers requiring labour under this scheme should apply to the nearest office of the Labour Department,” concluded Mr. McGillivray.
