FIRE BRIGADE’S FUNCTION.
An event looked forward to with much interest by the Fire Brigade children was the annual Christmas tree, held in the fip station on Monday evening last. At 7.30 p.m. Santa Claus arrived at the station and, needless to say, he was more than popular with the kiddies. From there all were taken for a ride on the fire engine, accompanied by a very noisy, but rather effective band assembled for the occasion. The next call was made at the Hospital, where Santa Claus presented each child with a toy, kindly donated by Messrs. Mason and Dobson, while the Band rendered several bright tunes to enliven the older patients. With everyone again on the fire engine,, the party returned to the station, where the many smiles on the faces of the younger ones as they received their present from Santa Claus off the tree, proved just how welcome he was.
Santa also had a very busy time distributing sweets, etc., to the children. The lady members also received a bottle of wine each, after which a very tasty supper was enjoyed by all present. Games and items by the children were the order for the remainder of the evening, and a most enjoyable function terminated at about 11 p.m.
