FLOWER SHOW

EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE. GOOD DISPLAY OF BLOOMS. There was a splendid attendance both in the afternoon and evening at the Rose Show, held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in the Winter Show Building on Friday. The entries were excellent both from the points of view of quantity and quality, the cut flowers especially being of a very high standard. The prize for the champion rose was won by Mrs. Brown. An outstanding feature of the show was the handwork by the Te Kuiti School pupils, and in this section the model aeroplane built by the standards V and VI boys were worthy of special mention. Each model on view, and there were 25 all told, had been in the air. Some of the planes were models of the latest types of aircraft, and great credit is due to the boys and their instructor, Mr. J. Allen, for the painstaking work which must have been necessary in the construction of the models.

The show was officially opened by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., who congratulated the ladies for their very fine effort in making the show such a success.

During the evening vocal items were given by Mrs. Lowrie, Messrs. K. W. Low and A. Blackman, Master Ivan Roscoe and Miss Peggy Cleaver, recitations by Master Don Browning and Misses Pat Edwards and Ngaire Haynes. Margaret Haynes danced two hornpipes and the standard IV pupils rendered several choruses.
