MOTORING ACCIDENT
CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE. OCCUPANTS' NARROW ESCAPE. On Monday "afternoon at 3 o'clock a car and a lorry collided on a bend of the road about a mile north of Hangatiki, the occupants of both vehicles having a narrow escape. The motor lorry was travelling from New Plymouth to Hamilton and was being driven by Mr. T. P. Telford, with three passengers. At the bend of the road it met a car driven by Mr. J. Curham, of Auckland, who with his wife and child was on their way to New Plymouth. At the meeting the car slightly skidded in the loose metal and in order to avoid a collision the driver of the loiTy struck a deep hole in the water-table and bumped heavily. The car struck the lorry a heavy glancing blow with the result that the lorry overturned and the cab smashed. The car then brought up against the road bank, the whole front being badly damaged. Two occupants of the truck received injuries. Mr. W. F. B. Telhad the calf of his leg torn, and a boy, L. Goodwin, received scalp wounds. Both were taken to the Te Kuiti Hospital, but their injuries are not of a serious nature.
The occupants of the car escaped injury, with the exception of Mrs. Curham, wife of the driver, who received a cut on the arm but was able to go on to New Plymouth later in the day.
