A LIFE INCOME
LEFT TO PONY. In the Horses’ Home at Little Bay, Sydney, is a small bay pony for whose upkeep, until death, 8s 6d a week was provided by the will of the late Mrs B. B. Allen. Among the favoured horses of Sydney the pony has taken the place of Samoa, the last of the Fire Brigade horses. Samoa, who died last year, had an income of 10s a week. Known as Allen to the employees of the R.S.P.C.A. Home, the pony lives a life of sheer luxury, with no hard work to do, and not even the task of carrying children for short and perilous rides. Allen has been at the home for about eight years and, with such as easy existence, he will be there for many more years to come. There are many human beings who would not say no to a regular income of 8s 6d, but Allen, in the estimation of his late owners, was a friend and a companion, and there was no intention of seeing him sold or destroyed, and then fed to the Taronga Park lions.
