BAD MOTOR SMASH

CRASH OVER BANK. ACCIDENT NEAR TAUMARUNUI. About 7.30 o’clock last night a car driven by Mr. A. Thorn, accompanied by Mr. Ti’uby King, of Stratford, left the road and crashed over the bank. The car apparently turned over several times iand came to rest about four chains below the road. The occupants had miraculous escapes from death and the car was badly damaged. The accident occurred on the Tokirima Hill. Mr. Thorn suffered injuries to his back and is at present in the Taumarunui Hospital. Mr. Truby King suffered superficial bruises. Members of the St. John Ambulance were summoned from Taumarunui and went out last night and brought the injured men back to town. The task of getting the men back on to the road was an arduous one and settlers in the vicinity lent valuable aid. Mr. King is general manager of Newton King, Ltd., and Mr. Thorn is the Stratford branch manager.

The accident occurred near Mr. McKenzie’s farm on the TaumarunuiTokirima road and where the car went over the bank is practically precipitous. Another motorist was following close behind at the time of the accident and immediately summoned assistance.
