CHEAPER FLYING

A new light aeroplane, which, it is claimed, costs less than a halfpenny a mile to run, was demonstrated for the first time in England at the Great West Aerodrome, near Hayes, Middlesex, recently. It is a British machine named “Tipsy,” and it was tried out by M. Eyskens, the Blegian airman. The machine is said to be the latest development of this type of aircraft. It costs £265, -has a cruising speed of 70 miles an hour, a top speed of 98 miles per hour, a landing speed of 37 miles per hour, and a range of 400 miles. For an hour’s run it consumes one gallon and a half of petrol costing 2s 3d, and half a pint of oil, costing 7d.
