KAWHIA SOUTH
R.S.A. BALL. (Own Correspondent.) The Kawhia South R.S.A. held their annual ball on the Bth inst. This year it was the turn of the Te Anga sector of the local branch and, as usual, the function was a leading social event of the district, the hall at Te Anga being full to overflowing. Mr. and Mrs. E. Phillips were the guests of the evening. Under the guidance of the honorary secretary, Mr. D. Leslie, the local committee, together with the valued assistance of the ladies, had made complete preparations to assure full enjoyment for everyone. Decorating took the form of red, white and blue with a set-off of pampas plumes and native greenery, the area about the stage being liberally draped _ with bunting. With Mr. D. Leslie in the capacity of M.C. and the stimulating strains from Mr. Pat O’Rourke’s orchestra, dancing proceeded gaily until the morning hours had somewhat advanced, and a happy event was brought to a conclusion. Pianoforte extras were played by Mrs. E. Phillips and Mr. M. Richards. On Wednesday, the Bth inst., the Te Anga Young Farmers’ Club had their monthly meeting in the form of a demonstration on pruning fruit trees given by Mr. Hamilton, of the Department of Agriculture. It was held at the orchards of Messrs. D. Burt and W. Shaw respectively. Mr. D. Burt, president of the club, briefly introduced the demonstrator to a large gathering, which included besides the Y.F. Club members a large number of the older generation of farmers. At the finish of the discourse, Mr. R. E. Miln, junr., chairman of the Club, cordially thanked Mr. Hamilton for his instructive address and moved a hearty vote of thanks. Residents from all over the district foregathered at the Kinohaku Hall on Monday, the 13th inst., to give a kitchen evening to Miss Brenda Mitchell in view of her pending marriage to Mi'. Alex. Munro, of Te Waitere. Dancing, games and musical items ocupied the evening. After supper, Mr. J. Schultz, in well chosen words, expressed the good wishes for their future. Mrs. Miln also spoke on behalf of the W.D.F.U. of their sense of appreciation for the help rendered on many occasions in the various district affairs, and asked her to accept some beautiful pieces of hand-painted pottery as an expression of their goodwill. Mr. A. Munro briefly replied, sincerely thanking all for their kindness and good wishes. Miss Mitchell was recipient of a splendid array of beautiful presents.
