PIO PIO

R.S.A. (Own Coi’respondent). On Tuesday evening, 14th inst., the Pio Pio Sub-Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association entertained the wives and lady friends of the members at their monthly meeting in the Rest Room. Mr. A. Morris presided over some 30 couples. The Loyal toast honoured, Mr. Morris welcomed the ladies and hoped the experiment that night augured well for such happy re-unions in the future. The gesture of inviting the wives and friends to supper was a very humble “thank you” for all the help they had given the Association in the past and for the sturdy support they gave thir husbands in all the social activities of the Branch. He made special mention of the presence of Mr. A. C. Shearer, president of the Te Kuiti Branch, and Mrs. Shearer, and gave them a hearty welcome.

Among the items which made the evening seem all too short were:— Soprano solos by Miss E. Hawkins, “Summer” and “In Meadows Fair”; recitation, by Mr. Nathan Early, “Bullocky,” “The Old Grey Mare,” and “Epitaphs”: flute solos by Mr. C. H. Paine, “Andante no bite” and “Rossignolet”; recitation by Mr. Frank Walker, “The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God” and “Impromptus,” and songs by Mr. and Mrs. Morris, Mr. Crocombe and Mrs. Barge. The supper was a delectable one; the whole evening was marked by a jollity and camaraderie, the hallmark of a successful function.
