MAHOENUI

BASKETBALL NOTES. (Own Correspondent.) A meeting was held during the week-end to discuss arrangements for a tournament day to be held at Mahoenui, Mr. W. Rattenbury having donated a shield for which any team may compete. Teams from' Pio Pio and surrounding districts as far south as Uruti are being invited to take part in the competition. Week-end Football. A football match between Awakino and Mahoenui was played on Saturday which proved one of the most exciting and hard fought games witnessed on the home field this season. The game resulted in a win for Awakino, placing them two points in the lead for the competition for the McMillan Shield. For the visitors C. Hepburn scored the only try, this being converted by G. Tate, while for the home team a penalty goal was kicked by S. Lang. Mr. J. Tubman controlled the game. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. T. Hayward and Miss Topsy Rattenbury of Okau, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rattenbury for the week-end. Miss K. Evans, of Aria, is the guest of Mrs. C. Roberts. Miss B. Simpson, of Mokau, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. Rattenbury, is now the guest of Mrs. R. Old. Mr. Ray Whitehouse, of Patea, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Moir. Messrs. W. Moir, B. Holloway and W. J. Tetzer have returned from Ohakune. Miss M. Gribbon has left on an extended visit to Wellington. Miss P. Roberts has returned from Whakatane. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Summers have returned from Auckland. Mr. H. Freeman has returned from a visit to the Queen City.
