THE MISSING BROTHERS
FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED. ATTEMPT TO SINK LAUNCH. (Press. Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.45 p.m.) Sydney, this day. Although the police have not found any evidence that would, definitely indicate foul play, they viewed most gravely the mysterious disappearance of the Thompson brothers. The fact that efforts .had been made to sink the launch may indicate an attempt by someone to hide the evidence of a crime and detectives now consider the possibility of assault and even of murder. The launch from which the Thompsons disappeared was seen by two fishermen on Saturday afternoon. One man was aboard and appeared to be trying to start the engine. The fishermen did not know the missing men, therefore were unable to say whether the man seen in the launch was one of the Thompson brothers. However, several points in the description furnished by the fishermen to the police do not tally with the clothing which the two brothers were wearing. Two brothers, Messrs. Harold Thompson, aged 36, solicitor, and Allan Thompson, 32, factory man:.ger, have been missing in mysterious circumstances since Saturday morning, when they set out in a motor launch on a fishing trip up the Hawkesbury River. A feature which adds to the mystery is the fact that the launch, which was found on the rocks of Dangar Island, in the river, on Sunday, had been damaged from Within. The plug had been pulled out and the magneto had been removed from the engine.
