BUDGET LEAKAGES
EVIDENCE BEFORE TRIBUNAL. STATEMENT BY ATTORNEYGENERAL. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 11.45 a.m.) London, May 11. In the course of an opening statement at the Budge tleakage tribunal, the Attorney-General mentioned that certain insurances were taken out against the Budget alterations by Sir Alfred Butt. There was also business on April 15 on behalf of Mr. Alfred Batesold, a friend of both Mr. J. IT. Thomas, a member of the Cabinet, and the latter’s son Leslie, who was a member of a stockbroking firm. Both Sir Alfred Butt and Mr. Leslie Thomas saw Mr. J. H. Thomas on Good Friday or during Easter week, but all three would say that no reference was then made to Budget possibilities and no disclosure on the subject made by Mr. J. H. Thomas. The trio were ready to assist the tribunal. Sir Alfred Butt is a theatrical manager and served in the Ministry of Food during 1917-18.
