THE STATE THEATRE
“THE PHANTOM LIGHT” The novel properties of the story of “The Phantom Light,” a Gau-mont-British thriller which will is being shown at the State Theatre tonight and Wednesday, are finely supported by the convincing atmosphere the picture presents of a lonely lighthouse on the rugged coast of Wales—an unusual setting in which most of the action takes place. Gordon Harker is in his element as chief lighthouse-keeper, newly sent from London headquarters to take over duty. His first scorn of the superstitious Welsh villagers gradually giving place to half-cre-dence, he woi-ks himself into a state of nerves; but, when the real machinery of the villainy at work begins to disclose itself he becomes a vigorous and effective man of action. Herbert Lomas, lan Hunter and Binnie Hale are also starred in this film, which tells the story of how through the blackness of the night a ship swept to her doom, decoyed by a phantom light, whilst two brave men and an adventurous woman fought against death to save her from destruction.
