BOROUGH ACTIVITY
THE ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report for the month ending 30th April was submitted by the Borough Engineer, Mr. B. J. Drake, to the monthly meeting of the Council held last evening:— Street Maintenance. —The following streets have received maintenance during the month: —Lawrence Street, Rangitoto Road, The Esplanade and Tawa Street. Esplanade.—That portion of the Esplanade between Lawrence Street and Te Kuiti Road has been regraded. A light dressing of shingle has been placed over a portion of the roadway and should be satisfactory. Supply of Shingle.—The previous contract for the delivery of shingle required for use in the Borough has now been cancelled and other contractors are being employed to scoop shingle. It is hoped that during favourable weather conditions enough shingle may be obtained. Scooping operations are now in pi’9gress south of the Sheridan Street bridge. Waterworks. —During the month several leaks of a minor nature occurred and have been repaired. The supply main to the abattoirs was fractured, necessitating a replacement across the river.
