BOY SCOUTS' BIRTHDAY

FUNCTION ON SATURDAY EVENING. The fifth birthday of the Te Kuiti Boy Scouts was held on Saturday evening in B. and A.'s Hall, and was attended by about 100 guests. Visiting Scouts and Girl Guides were present from Hamilton, Te Awa-: mutu, Otorohanga and Pio Pio, and there was a fair attendance of local residents. The birthday took the form of a tea at 6 p.m. followed by a social evening. The tables were tastefully decorated in the colours of the Te Kuiti group, and on the head table was a beautiful birthday' cake donated by Mrs. Saville. A kewpie dressed as a Boy Scout occupied a prominent position on top of "the cake. After the tea Mr. Davison, chairman of the local committee, invited Mrs. Carroll to cut the birthday cake, and then presented the Mayoress with_.the kewpie as a mark of their appreciation. In the absence of the local Scoutmaster, Mr. Drake, Assistant S.M. Ward, assisted by Scoutmaster Clark of Hamilton, supervised the social side of the evening, which took the form of community singing, items by all the troops and Girl Guides, and an exhibition of flag drill by St. Peter's (Hamilton) troop. A very enjoyable evening came to an end about 9.30.
