ARATORO HALL COMMITTEE DANCE. (Own Correspondent.) The Hall Committee held a dance in aid of their funds on Saturday, 31st August. In addition to the local patrons, visitors were present from Mangapehi, Waipa, Mahgaokewa, Kopaki and Te Kuiti. The M.C. for the evening, Mr. H. Logan, was all that could be desired, keeping the musicians and dancers busily employed. Mr. Phil Swift's orchestra supplied their usual tuneful music, old-time and modern, supplemented with extras by Mrs.' Ormsby (Te Kuiti) and~Misses V. BrumbyL. Farrell and E. ' The better weather brought together a larger, number of members to the last meeting—held last Saturday—than has been the case for some time, and two new members received a hearty welcome. Mrs. J. N. Gall presided. A comprehensive and interesting report of the Dominion Conference, given by the branch delegate, Miss Crozier, received well deserved attention. At its close a vote of thanks to the speaker was passed with acclamation.
In answering the roll call, many excellent cooking hints were given, some that "Grannie" had known and made use of in the olden days, that had come back to the mind of, her granddaughter—now also, a "grannie"—in the brain racking endeavour to supply something unique to the meeting. In the competition—-best article from a sugar bag—Miss L. Jones gained the most points with a handsome cushion, Miss Logan ; coming second with a neat and useful shopping bag. The August competition —Gifts, each member's donation to the Hall Committee as prizes for-the - novelty dances—was also judged at this meeting, Miss Dowdall winning with a bowl of beautiful wax roses,. Mrs. Hobern second with ' a nicely worked apron. As the funds were getting low, it was decided to hold a dance on the 26th October, when it is hoped the weather will be kind and patrons plentiful. The hostesses for the afternoon were Misses Logan and L. • Jones.
