WAITANGURU

ANNUAL TENNIS MEETING.

(Own Correspondent.) The annual Tennis Club meeting was held at the Hall on Monday evening, Mr. Frederickson being in the chair and Mr. Clarke and Mrs.; Lowrie acting as secretaries. There was a representative meeting of the residents in spite of the wet night. The new committee consists of D. Frederickson as chairman, and Miss Eileen Buckley, secretary; with Messrs. Pat Donnelley, R. Dew, L. Peterson, Geo. Buckley and G. Higens. The annual tennis dance will be held on October 4th. Card and Dance Evening. On Wednesday evening the fortnightly card and dance function was held. There was quite a good attendance. For the cards (bridge) the winners were: Miss M. Verry first for the ladies, and Mr. D. Frederickson for the gentlemen, whilst for the consolation prize Mrs. Lowrie and her small son, Thomas, held the recording numbers. An enjoyable dance followed, the musician being Mr. Lafferty with D. Frederickson for the extra. The M.C., Mr. Frederickson, announced that it was Mr. Lafferty's last night for the musician's job as he was leaving and that he was sorry to have to announce the fact, and thanked Mr. Lafferty for so regularly attending. The Mangaotaki football team is having a big dance on the 11th October. This team deserves some credit for their season's play, and won out under all sorts of difficulties as beset a backblocks team. The material is there. We congratulate them on their "shield" win. It is understood that they play Mangapehi on the Mangaotaki ground on Saturday, 21st instant.
