Mr. H. S. Burns, acting manager of the Christchurch branch of Dalgety and Company, has received advice of his appointment to the managership of the firm's business in East Africa. He will be stationed at Nairobi, Kenya.
A London press message announces that Colo'nel Charles Ponsonby (Con.) was returned unopposed for Sevenoaks in the by-election due to the elevation of the Rt. Hon. Sir E. Hilton Young to the peerage.
A Press Association message from Melbourne announces the death of Mr. John McFarlane, Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, who was well known in New Zealand, where every year he spent a month in trout fishing in the lakes and rivers. He served the University in its highest posts and was remarkable for his ability as an administrator.
