FLOODS IN THE NORTH

ROAD AND RAIL TRAFFIC HELD UP.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Whangarei, this day.

Continued heavy rain, amounting to 6 inches during the last 48 hours, has accentuated traffic dislocation between .Whangarei and Auckland, both road and rail communication being completely cut off. This position is likely to obtain for several days, as the inundation varying up to a depth of six feet is covering the track for a distance of five miles between Wayby and Hoteo, with a 300 yards slip at the later place, causing an indefinite holdup of the railway connection, while slips at Dome Valley prevent main highway travel. No serious trouble is reported from the districts in the Far North. The rainfall this month in the Whangarei area is already 2 inches above the July average.
