YOUNG MAN'S DEATH

ACCIDENT WHILE SHOOTING. TRAGEDY AT KAKAHI. Fatal gun-shot wounds were received by Mr. Norman J. Johansen, aged 22, son of Mr. J. Johansen, of Taumarunui, while out rabbit shooting yesterday at Kakahi. _ At the time of the accident, about noon, deceased was shooting alone in the old river-bed approximately a. mile from the Kakahi Maori pa. It is stated that Mr. Johansen tripped, and the double-barrelled shot-gun which he was carrying exploded, the charge from the choke bore entering his right side just below the armpit. A young man, John Weata, heard Mr. Johansen’s cries for help and informed the Maoris at the pa, who in turn communicated with Constable P. O’Sullivan, of Manunui. Dr. Welby and the ambulance were summoned, but the injured man died when they arrived on the scene.
