KAWHIA SOUTH

(Own Correspondent). The Kawhia South branch of the W.D.F.U. held its annual meeting at Te Anga Hall on the 3rd instant. The President, Mrs. R. Miln, presided over a large attendance. In reviewing the work of the past year Mrs. Miln thanked the secretary and committee for their help and loyal support, without which it would be impossible to carry on. During the year a subbranch had been formed at the Kinohakw end for convenience of members. Several housekeepers had been appointed to relieve mothers where required, this being an important part of the working side of the Division’s activities. The birthday party had been a splendid success and Such functions afforded opportunity of personal contact with members of other branches. >

Mrs. Miln was re-elected President of the branch for the sixth year, and Mrs. D, Leslie as'honorary secretary, the retiring secretary, Mrs. A. B. Read, having found it difficult to

continue in the onerous position. On relinquishing her duties, Mrs. Read was the recipient of many complimentary remarks and acclamation.

Kawhia South R.S.A.

The Kawhia South branch of the R.S.A. held its annual meeting at Te Anga Hall on the 4th instant, a full attendance of returned soldiers being present from all parts of the district. The President, Mr. D. Tynan, reviewed the past season’s work and regretted having lost so valuable a member as Mr. W. Howard, the one-time secretary, who had left the district. A considerable amount of help had been given to Diggers experiencing difficulties, while the various social functions, especially the annual ball, and smoke concert held at Kinohaku being a marked success. Mr. Tynan was re-elected President of the branch, Messrs. A. B. Read and J. Schultz Vice-Presidents, and Mr. D. Leslie honorary secretary. On resuming as an ordinary meeting, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. P. C. Rose, to get full particulars and statement of the position of the Canteen Fund for discussion at the next meeting. It was decided to hold the next annual ball and “smoko” at. Marakopa on the 9th and 17th July respectively.

Mr. E. Phillips has been elected President of the Kawhia Rugby Union for the coming year.
