THE STATE THEATRE

To-night (Guest Night) and on Friday night the sensational picture “Cheating Cheaters’ will be featured at the State, with Fay Wray in the lead. Imagine the unique situation of two of the sharpest witted gangs of jewel thieves in the world, matching their nefarious brains to outwit each other, and each believing the other to be honest and respectable. This is the keynote of “Cheating Cheaters,” which was the daddy of all crook plays and is now a sparkling picture. Brilliant dialogue, clever direction and splendid acting, make this one of the brightest films of the year. There will be a matinee at the State on Friday at 2 p.m. THE EMPRESS. At the Empress on Friday and Saturday evenings there will be a double feature programme. The first unit “Jealousy,” is based on a thrilling story and relates the experiences of a jealously-crazed prize-fighter and his lovely wife. Murphy, who was recently recruited by Columbia to a long-term contract, spent eight years of his life in the ring, ”and is thus eminently suited to the role. The second picture, “Lots of Fun,” is a merry melange of _ romance, drama and song, and quite a new form of screen entertainment. Thirty big stars of screen, stage and radio appear in this grand and glorious screen show sparkling with mirth, melody and romance.
