LACK OF CO-OPERATON

ORGANISATIONS OF TOWN. MORE LEAD FROM BOROUGH WANTED. A plea that the Borough Council should participate more actively in the life of the town was made by Cr. Low at the meeting of that body last evening. The Council had been in the past out of touch with other organisations working for the good of the town, and these organisations had been out of touch with each other. The Council should be the co-ordin-ating point of all the bodies of the town. To a large extent there had been a lack of cohesion between the various bodies, and he believed they would work in greater harmony if they had the Council’ as a point of contact and as a leader.

The Mayor said the suggestion was an excellent one. In the past, however, the Borough had always been ready to co-operate —for instance, the Chamber of Commerce had been granted the use of the Council Chambers for meetings.

Cr. Douglas said that if these bodies knew they could obtain the assistance of the Council they would come. It was not always money that could make or break a thing, for moral support was a very vital matter with such organisations.
