A TIMELY DISCOVERY

RAILWAY BRIDGE ON FIRE. IN EARLY HOURS OF MORNING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Waipukurau, this day. The northern end 6f the Waipukurau railway bridge was discovered to be ablaze by a milkman about six o’clock this morning. An alarm was sounded and the Fire Brigade arrived on the scene and promptly quelled the outbreak with buckets and a hand-pump. The tops of three piles were burned together with the sill and centre cap. Temporary repairs were effected in time to permit the 10 o’clock southward express through. A probable cause of the bridge becoming ignited may have been a spark from the southward-bou'nd train at seven o’clock last night.
