AIR MAIL SUBSIDY
GOVERNMENT'S DECISION. ENGLAND-AUSTRALIA. A step was taken by Cabinet on Saturday which indicates that it definitely looks forward to the time when New Zealand will be linked by direct air service with Great Britain. Cabinet has decided to make a contribution by this country toward the cost of the air mail service which is about to be commenced from Great Britain to Sydney, via Karachi. Even without an air service across the Tasma'n it is estimated that if good steamer connections are made this will reduce by no less than 18 days the period of transit between England and New Zealand.
