WAITOMO POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Waitomo Power Board held yesterday there were present Messrs. W. A. Lee (chairman), V. W. Simms, E. T. Gorton, W. Irvine, T. M. O'Connell, W. S. Cato, J. N. Boddie, the secretary, Mr. Seeker, and the engineer, Mr. Davidson. The engineer was instructed to make inquiries, etc., in regard to the replacing of a motor truck stationed at Otoi-ohanga. Overhaul of Installations. It was reported by the engineer that several consumers were not making any move to have their installations overhauled, though they had been served with notices. The chairman moved that in any case where these requirements were not complied with a final notice should be sent out, and if the work were not then proceeded with, then the consumer should be disconnected. In answer to Mr. O'Connell, who asked what was the position when there were absentee owners, the engineer stated that the Board was only required to deal with the consumer, but in many cases the requirements were placed before the owner of the property. Mr. Boddie asked if the installations were likely to be condemned. The engineer replied that hardly an installation had been condemned since the Board began these inspections. It was only a matter of bringing the installations up to a certain degree of safety. In many cases the trouble lay in the appliances, flexes, etc. More often small amounts like ss, 10s or 20s were involved. The chairman's motion was carried. Mahiihi Line. Some discussion arose on the time of beginning work on the Mahiihi line. The engineer reported that he was practically ready to start with the erection, but no reply had been received from Wellington in regard to the proposal to utilise relief labour. It was resolved that this work be held up pending the reply, and that the Unemployment Board be written to asking for a reply as soon as was possible. ___________».___.
