SOLIDIFIED CARDON DIOXIDE.
Scientific circles in Cracow are said to be keenly interested in a remarkable phenomenon which has occurred at Krynitsa, a Polish health resort close to the Czechoslovak frontier. While work was proceeding on a new mineral water boring there was brought to the surface from a depth of 2800 feet solidified carbon dioxide, which settled on the ground like a light covering of snow and then quickly evaporated. It is claimed that this is the first time solidified carbon dioxide has appeared directly in nature. The temperature of the solidified gas is said to be minus 104 deg. Centigrade. The solidification is ascribed to the terrific pressure which must exist in the subterranean regions from which the gas escaped. Professors from the University of Cracow are making further investigations.
