PIO PIO.

(Own Correspondent.)

The eighteenth annual general meeting of shareholders of the Pio Pio Town, Hall Co., Ltd., was held on Tuesday, 10th inst. The directors elected for the ensuing year were Messrs. J. E. Trust (chairman), C. E. Jackson, J. Kilmartin, J. H. McH. Webb, J. K. Walker, and H. Topp. Mr. H. J. Dewsnap was reelected secretary, and Mr. A. W. Whyte auditor. The secretary read the report and balance sheet, which showed a most satisfactory state of affairs. In spite of a reduction of 20 per cent, on the rentals which was granted at the commencement of last year, the rents showed an increase, amounting in all to £lO7 ss. Most of the debts owing, by the Company have been paid off, leaving only one small account to be dealt with. There was, however, no dividend payable on the year’s working. The chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet, congratulating the shareholders on the good position maintained in spite of the very hard times.

Further business discussed was the advisability of enlarging the accommodation, especially for non-dancers, recent dances having taxed the holding capacity of the hall to the limit. It was decided to wait until later in the year before making a decision. The monthly meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the Rest Room on Tuesday, 10th inst. The evening was a social one—sing, say or pay—and although there were some 25 present only two preferred to pay than say. The only business to be discussed was the advisability of raising funds to provide themselves with a room of their own. The Women’s Rest Room is overcrowded whenever there is a full muster of members—so in all. The matter is left in abeyance. During the social supper was served.
