WAITANGURU
(Own Correspondent.) Owing to the seven-a-side tournament at Taumarunui on Saturday last, there was no football played between Te Kuiti and Mangaotaki juniors. This event comes off on Saturday next on Mr. Hill’s property in Mangaotaki. This spot ought to be indicated by signposts from Pio Pio in, as visiting teams often get off the track, and in these short days it gets dark before the game is finished. The Mairoa basketball girls organised a dance which would have been more largely attended if the weather had not been so wet. However, it was much enjoyed and the Club’s funds slightly increased thereby. Mairoa school is much too small for dancing or concerts. Next Wednesday evening, 14th inst., there will be a school concert and dance held in Mr. Voyce’s shed. This promises to be a special attraction, and the teacher and childreh are working towards this event. We hope the weather treats us well and visitors from all narts will get something out of the ordinary. The dance floor speaks for itself.
The Pungarehu wants touching up in places re loose metal. In these Umes a lot of folk have to take to “shanks’ pony.” and the result is disastrous to shoes and nerves, causing some caustic remarks about the management of these affairs. There were a few journeyed to Hamilton to the Waikato Show. Most of the residents are hanging off for the local Show in Te Kuiti. If there were cheap trips or ways to get in there may be a chance for most of us and the school children to attend. The district courts will provide a lot of interest.
