DOUGLAS SOCIAL CREDIT.
(Own Correspondent.) There was an attendance of about tliirtv at the Paraheka branch meeting' of the Douglas Social Credit movement on Monday evening. Mr. A. R. Keighley presided over the meeting, which was opened by an address on the urgent need for monetary reform, by the honorary secretary, Mr. J. B. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Calvert and Messrs. S. Riddle and A. Riddle from the Kaeaea branch were also present, and Mr. Calvert gave a brief outline of the principles of Major Douglas’s Social Credit theory. A paper dealing with the improved social conditions which would be enjoyed under the Douglas Social Credit regime was read by Mrs. A. E. Sharp. The benefits outlined were, both remarkable and desirable. Several questions regarding the working and possible dangers of the system were answered by Mr. and Mrs. Calvert and Mr* S. Riddle, all of whom are well versed in the subject. Mr. Calvert also read a lecture dealing with the desirability of stabilising currency on a more scientific basis than that of linking it to a single commodity such as gold. At the conclusion of the meeting literature dealing with the movement was distributed. The number of publications available upon the subject is significant of its wide appeal.
