Mr. R. Hill, of the post office staff, Kaikohe, who is on extended leave of absence, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Williams, "Paparata," Pukerimu Road, Kopaki.
The many friends of Mrs. Errol Mackersey, who became - suddenly ill early last week, will be glad to hear she is slowly recovering.
At the annual meeting of the Waitomo County Council yesterday it was decided to write to the previous chairman, Mr. R. Were, wishing him a speedy recoverey from his illness.
A Press Association message from Wellington announces the appointment of Mr. Eugene Casey as Assistant General Manager of Railways, in succession to Mr. Mackley, recently appointed General Manager.
A Press Association message from London announces the death at Cannes of Admiral Lord Wemyss. The late Admiral Wemyss entered the Navy in 1877 and rose to be Admiral of the Fleet in 1919, being created a Baron in the same year. He was in command of the squadron at the landing of Gallipoli in April, 1915, and was First Sea Lord 1917-19. He went on the retired list in 1929.
A delegation from the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce and the Winter Show Association, accompanied by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., journeyed to Hamilton yesterday and met the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, with the request that he officially open the Winter Show on Thursday, 29th June, and at the same time make a tour of the surrounding district. Mr. Macmillan in reply said he was much interested in the King Country, and would accept the invitation.
